Yeshua ישוע: Salvation and Deliverance
Updated: Mar 16
Yeshua is our Lord and Savior's original Hebrew name revealed to Mary by Gabriel (although some debate the exact pronunciation, but that's okay). It comes from the word "yasha" which means "deliverance, rescue, salvation, safety, welfare."
For the LORD [Yahweh] your God is he who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to give you the victory [yasha].’ Deud 20:4 ESV
So why do we call him Jesus?
Quick fun fact: the correct transliteration of the Hebrew name Yeshua is actually Joshua, but the Greeks couldn't make the "sh" sound. They went with Iesus (Yay-soos) which in English became Jesus.
There are four Hebrew letters in Yeshua:
Yod - hand, work
Shin - teeth, destroy, consume
Vov - tent peg, nail
Ayin - eye, see, perceive, experience

Scripture says Israel crossing the Red Sea had to have the same faith that we do today. Whenever they refused to obey him and his Torah, God always referred them back to how he demonstrated his deliverance--his yasha. Their faith was shown outwardly by their obedience.
Yeshua's deliverance produces the fruit of righteousness in us by faith in him!
Thank you Yeshua for your salvation which was available from the very beginning! Thank you for your effort that produces obedience, righteousness, and holiness in me! Show me where my faith needs to grow, where I need to repent and obey you. You are the Author and Perfecter of my faith, who delights in me.
